Tallaght Swim Team members are divided into 3 squads, A, B and C. The A and B squads are further divided into A1, A2, B1 and B2. Progress from the C squad through to B and A2 squads is dependent on a number of factors, including but not limited to attendance at training and times achieved at galas. To join the A1 squad, a swimmer must achieve at least one National Division 1 time in competition.
A recent addition is the A3 squad, which trains 3 times a week and is aimed primarily at swimmers who have been in the A squad but who cannot maintain a high level of training due to school or other commitments.
We also have a 'Teaching Class' section for swimmers making the move from lessons to lane swimming.
Total weekly training hours available are as follows:
| Squad | Pool | Dryland |
| A1 | 15.5 | 2 |
| A2 | 14.5 | 1 |
| A3 | 3 | 1 |
| B1 | 11 | 1 |
| B2 | 7 | 1 |
| C | 4.5 | 1 |
| Lanes/Teaching | 3 | 0 |
Each swimmer is expected to maintain a minimum of 50% attendance in order to maintain a place in his or her relevant squad.
Any A squad swimmer who is unable to swim but able to train (eg ear infection or similar condition requiring him/her not to do water-based training) may, with the approval of the coach, do dryland training using the equipment at the back of the pool as a substitute for swim training.
Additional Optional Dryland Training
Additional optional dryland training is available for the A squads on Wednesday and Friday from 6-6.30pm, using the equipment at the back of the pool (VASA, chin-dip, etc). Please refer to the signup sheet for more details.
